Generic Propylthiouracil 50mg Tab comes from the drug class known as an antithyroid agent, which is primarily prescribed to people living with Graves’ disease or hyperthyroidism (a condition wherein the thyroid gland produces thyroid hormone more than required). It is also used prior to thyroid surgery or radioactive iodine therapy to subside the symptoms of an overactive thyroid. It may also be used to treat other conditions not mentioned here.

This medication works by interfering with the body's ability to produce excess thyroid hormone.
